A law firm built to do things differently

Elkheir Partners was founded by brothers Kazem and Bashaar Elkheir, two lawyers who specialised in very different areas of the law. Together, they wanted to build something they noticed missing from the local legal market: high level strategic advice delivered by experienced lawyers – quickly, personally and without compromise.

That means when you engage Elkheir Partners, you’ll always deal directly with a partner. You’ll receive advice that’s honest rather than reassuring. And you’ll work with lawyers who are genuinely invested in your outcome and not just your file.

The firm operates from Sydney for clients from around Australia and appears in courts and tribunals across NSW and beyond, including the Federal Court, NSW Supreme Court, District Court, Administrate Review Tribunal, NCAT and the Fair Work Commission.

Our approach

We tell you what you need to hear, even if it’s not what you want to hear. That directness leads to better decisions and drives better outcomes.

Our promise

Every client gets real attention from the lawyer who knows their matter best, not updates filtered through someone junior.

Our focus

We always start with the outcome and work back from there. What really matters is what your business, your finances and your life look like once the legal question is resolved.

The story behind the firm

While Elkheir Partners may still be a young firm, our story has taken years to write. Both Kazem and Bashaar Elkheir spent the first part of their careers acquiring top-level legal experience in leading commercial practices before joining forces to build the firm.

Kazem had spent years running complex commercial and litigation matters, including Federal Court proceedings, regulatory investigations, Supreme Court disputes and eight-figure settlements. Meanwhile, Bashaar previously advised multinational clients on complex commercial transactions and taxation laws.

More recently, they were joined by Bashir Elkheir, a former prosecutor, who had built his career inside the NSW prosecution system, developing the kind of forensic understanding of criminal procedure that most defence lawyers never acquire.

While they worked for different firms and in different areas of the law, all brothers noticed the same thing: that the clients who needed sophisticated legal advice most – like business owners under pressure, individuals facing serious charges and people navigating high-stakes disputes – were often the least well served by existing law firms. There was too much process, too little partner. And advice that arrived too slowly for people who needed straight answers fast.

Elkheir Partners is built around a different model. It’s small enough that every client deals directly with a partner, but experienced enough that the advice they receive reflects genuine expertise, not supervised work product. And it’s structured so that the two complementary halves of their practice – Kazem’s commercial and litigation depth, Bashaar’s criminal defence instincts – sit under one roof, available to every client who needs them.

FAQs about Elkheir Partners

Who are the lawyers at Elkheir Partners?

Elkheir Partners was founded by brothers Kazem and Bashaar Elkheir.

Kazem is the firm’s principal commercial and litigation lawyer, with experience spanning Federal Court proceedings, regulatory investigations, Supreme Court proceedings and complex commercial transactions.

Bashaar specialises in criminal defence and family kaw and brings an unusual background to that work: after beginning his career advising sophisticated multinational clients on tax law, This gives him a high tolerance for complexity and a forensic understanding of both how prosecution cases are built and where they can be challenged.

Is Elkheir Partners a new firm?

The firm is young, but the experience behind it isn’t. Both partners spent the first part of their careers working at serious levels in their respective fields before founding Elkheir Partners. That background is the foundation everything else is built on.

Why should I choose your firm over a larger Sydney law firm?

It depends on your matter. Large firms have scale, but scale comes with process and process comes with distance.

At a firm like Elkheir Partners, the partner you meet at the first consultation is the lawyer who runs your matter. You get direct access to the firm’s partners, same-day responses and advice from someone who is personally invested in your outcome.

For clients dealing with serious legal challenges like complex disputes, criminal charges and high-stakes transactions, that access and attention can make a material difference to the result.

Do your partners handle all types of matters?

The partners have distinct specialisations. Kazem handles commercial transactions, advice litigation and disputes. Bashaar focuses on criminal defence and family law and Bashir specialises in criminal defence law. We also have a team of lawyers with high-level experience who help provide knowledgeable and practical legal advice.

In other words, we can cover the full spectrum of legal challenges most businesses and private individuals face: which means clients can usually access the specialties they need under one roof without needing to engage separate firms.

Can I speak directly with a partner before deciding whether to engage the firm?

Yes. We offer initial consultations where you can discuss your matter directly with a partner, get an honest assessment of your position and understand your options, before you commit.

How does Elkheir Partners approach legal costs?

Transparently. We provide clear cost estimates before work begins so you know what you’re committing to. For certain matters, such as property conveyancing and some criminal defence work, we can often offer fixed fee arrangements.

We also advise clients honestly on early resolution options where they represent genuine value compared to the cost of continued proceedings.

What kinds of clients does Elkheir Partners act for?

We act for a range of clients including business owners, company directors, developers, builders, private individuals and not-for-profit organisations.

The work we do ranges from representing individuals facing serious criminal charges to advising businesses on managing complex commercial transactions, property matters and high-stakes disputes.

What our clients tend to have in common is that they’re dealing with something that genuinely matters to them – and they want lawyers who also treat it that way.

Where is Elkheir Partners based and which courts do you appear in?

We’re based in Sydney’s CBD at Level 16, Suite 16.02, 109 Pitt Street.

We act for clients across Australia and appear in courts and tribunals throughout NSW and beyond, including the Federal Court of Australia, NSW Supreme Court, District Court, Local Court, NCAT, the Fair Work Commission and the Administrative Review Tribunal.

Does Elkheir Partners handle urgent matters?

Yes, across all practice areas. We handle many criminal matters immediately, particularly bail applications and where you need urgent representation after charges are laid.

For urgent commercial matters including injunction applications and freezing orders, we prioritise rapid response and move quickly to protect your position.
